About this artist

Had Captain Ahab set his eyes on the comely Cia Soro, he no doubt would have altered the object of his quest from Moby Dick to an altogether different Whale. Soro's vampy vocals smolder on ultralouche songs such as "Young, Dumb and Full of Cum" and "Pay for Me." Whale's eroticism, however, is shot through with irony and sophisticated enough to exploit their sex appeal without being exploited by it. Nowhere is the irony any thicker than on their 1995 debut We Care, which contained the larky MTV hit "Hobo Humpin' Slobo Babe," a song which in many ways seems to have inspired Chumbawamba's "Tubthumping." The band's second album All Disco Dance Must End in Broken Bones was an even stronger offering of infectious dance grooves, crunching guitar riffs, and of course, Soro's sultry vocal touch.
