About this artist

Norwegian indie punks Spielbergs rapidly gained media notice in 2018 with the roaring and energetic songs of their debut EP Distant Star. Channeling bands like Japandroids, Titus Andronicus, and No Age, the band proved their music was as melodic as it was discordant on singles like “4AM.”
Comprised of Mads Baklien, Stian Brennskag, and Christian Løvhaug the trio formed in Oslo in 2016; all had been in bands prior to Spielbergs. Following their initial forays into careers in music, both Baklien and Løvhaug returned to university in an effort to bring some stability to their lives. Yet, by joining Brennskag, they rejuvenated their need to play music. They entered the studio to record their debut EP with the Wombats’ Tord Øverland Knudsen, who became increasingly frustrated with the trio’s inability to settle on a name for the band. Eventually, he suggested they name themselves after director Steven Spielberg as the EP featured a song inspired by their seeing his 1977 film Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The newly minted Spielbergs put out the Distant Star EP in April 2018, which was followed by their debut full-length record This Is Not the End in early 2019. The band closed out the year with another EP, Running All the Way Home. ~ Bekki Bemrose
