An inventive singer, songwriter, and rapper, Binki fuses hip-hop, indie rock, and funk into his own quirky brand of bedroom-style pop. He released his debut EP, Motor Function, in 2021.
Born Baraka Ongari in Pennsylvania, Binki initially became interested in acting as a teenager. After high school, he studied theater at the University of North Carolina. It was there that he taught himself how to play guitar. He eventually began writing songs, drawing upon an array of influences, including Childish Gambino, Pink Floyd, Tyler, The Creator, and David Bowie, among others. He began posting them online and in 2018 released the song “Marco” on streaming services. It gained him a following and helped land him a label deal with Fader.
