The Love-Birds

About this artist

San Francisco’s the Love-Birds are a band who like just a bit of fuzz with their jangle pop. Playing hooky tunes with plenty of ringing guitars but just enough grit and energy to keep them from seeming too slick, the Love-Birds emerged from the Bay Area’s D.I.Y. scene in 2016, and made a splash with critics with their debut EP, 2017′s Filled with Hate. As they made a name for themselves in the pop underground, the Love-Birds hooked up with the respected indie label Trouble in Mind for the release of their first album, 2018′s In the Lover's Corner. Featuring Thomas Rubenstein and Eli Wald on guitar and vocals, Charlie Ertola on bass, and Eli Groshelle on drums, all four members of the Love-Birds were born and raised in San Francisco, California, though the title song of their EP Filled with Hate deals with an unhappy period when one of them briefly relocated to Los Angeles. Citing R.E.M., Teenage Fanclub, and Big Star as influences, the band had earned acclaim as a live act when they headed into San Francisco’s Secret Studios with engineer Peter Avery to cut Filled with Hate. The four-song release was issued on a vinyl 7″ as well as in digital formats, and the EP received positive notices and fine word of mouth. The Love-Birds set out on a West Coast tour in support of Filled with Hate, and hooked up with Trouble in Mind for their first full-length project. Production duties were divided between Glenn Donaldson of the Skygreen Leopards (who mixed the debut EP) and indie pop tunesmith Kelley Stoltz, and In the Lover's Corner appeared in May 2018. ~ Mark Deming
