About this artist

Distinct and yet utterly relatable, artist JSMINE SOPHIA creates music from a place of healing, both for herself and for her listeners. A self-taught singer-songwriter and producer, JSMINE began creating music at the age of 19 after moving to London, using her voice and sound to navigate through a vast array of emotions and inner conflicts.

Growing up in the UK with the combination of both Indian and English heritage - having had Alopecia from the age of 3 - the subject of identity has always been embedded in her conversations and thoughts. Her experiences have shaped her into an artist with the innate ability to express herself with ease, in a way that is calming and yet remains entirely self-aware.

In February 2020, JSMINE released her debut EP ‘E.Q’, a self-produced, open book into her mind in which she addresses themes such as self-worth, insecurity and identity, amidst genre-defying soundscapes.

JSMINE SOPHIA’s early influences come from 2000s R&B and strong female artists such as Alicia Keys and Beyoncé. Her production then is heavily influenced by Hip-Hop, and notably by Kanye West’s own genre-defiance. More recently she has been inspired by Frank Ocean’s experimental lyricism and the story-telling of modern R&B artists such as SZA and Jhené Aiko.
