About this artist

Inconsciente Colectivo was a rock group from Costa Rica, founded in 1989 in the province of Cartago. Specifically in Tres Ríos. As such it was one of the most influential and transcendental groups in the history of Costa Rican rock.

In 1990 "Inconsciente Colectivo" (IC) recorded its first song, "Avenida Central". Despite the rejection of several radio stations, the song was accepted and came to occupy first place in "Radio Fabulosa" for 5 consecutive weeks.

In 1991 comes "Frágil", a song that despite the refusal of the programmers of several national radios, manages to enter "Radio Uno", with the condition that if it does not achieve a minimum of calls from the public in a week, it would be taken out of transmission. That year it was up to 16 weeks in the popularity charts (a month of # 1) not only of this one but of several other stations (103 "la radio joven", Columbia Estereo, Fundación, Fabulosa y Radio Sistema Universal). In addition, that year the Radio Uno station granted them recognition as "Musical Group of the Year", and "Best National Rock / Pop Song" for "Frágil".

In 1992 IC wins first place in the "Yamaha Music Quest 92" among 76 participating national groups. Weeks later the band also achieves first place in the Inter-American final of this festival. So that IC wins the ticket to represent Central and South America in the grand final of the "Yamaha Music Quest 92" in Japan and although it did not officially win an award, it won third place in the popularity survey conducted by Japanese radio stations.

For 1993, the band releases a new single, "Sigues Siempre En Mi Piel". Also the winner of the "Mejor Grupo Nacional de Rock" award, awarded by the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports. This year the group takes part of the "Rock Tour" tour. In 1994 they record their first album, Inconsciente Colectivo, recorded in the estudios Primera Generación in Guatemala, with songs such as "Avenida Central", "Frágil" (perhaps the best known song of the group), "Amor Clandestino", " Nueva Era" and "Formas De Sentir".

For the year 1997 there were a series of significant changes in the group: it goes into a trio format, with the entry of Rafa Ugarte on drums and Eduardo Carmona on bass. The band continues to reap triumphs, such as the "Best Singer" award for Pato Barraza, awarded by the main national newspaper, "La Nación" and the signing of a contract with the national record house Marsol Records.

In 1998 the band presents its second album entitled: " Pastillas Antidepresivas, Religiones Y Demás... Para El Alma", double disc that contains great hits of the band and classics of Costa Rican rock as "Cautiva De Mar", "Condición" and "Se Me Puede Olvidar". This year the band receives several nominations for the ACAM: "Best Record Production" and "Best Composer" for the ACAM 99 'awards.

IC returned to the scene in the "979 Unplugged", with a full full in the Auditorio Nacional. With this event IC celebrates the recovery of his singer (who at that time had suffered an accident that had removed him from the stage), the 10th Anniversary of the band and also performs the recording of this concert, thus emerging what would come to be the 3rd record production of the band (and the only live material): "Inconscierto", which consists of 11 live versions of the most significant songs for the group, plus an extra previously unreleased track. This album marks the closure of the band's first 10 years of work, also serving as a "separate point" in the group's musical proposal. This concert includes other great icons of national production such as José Capmany and Luis Montalbert-Smith, among many others who have always believed and shared Pato's musical excellence.

In 2001, they signed with the BMG label for the distribution in Costa Rica and Central America of their two albums, bringing to the market a reissue of the albums: "Inconsciente Colectivo" and "Pastillas Antidepresivas, Religiones Y Demás... Para El Alma", which were originally published in 1994 and 1998 respectively .

For the year 2003, the band releases what would be their last musical production under this name, titled "Data", under the Marsol Records label. The album in general is about the excess of information that is constantly bombarding society. It presents a heavier sound compared to previous productions, without neglecting the country's social theme in some of its lyrics. From this album the single "Nunca Vencidos", a song dedicated to Parmenio Medina.

In early 2004, after having opened significant doors for national production, IC announces its separation due in large part to the difficulty of staying economically in the Costa Rican environment and thus, in this way, its members are routed into different musical and personal projects.
