High School Music Band

About this artist

Nashville trio Music Band create a powerful sound from bare-bones instrumentation, turning up the volume with classic rock riffs, power pop hooks and tempos, and an undercurrent of punk attitude. Their meat-and-potatoes rock & roll sound hides a wealth of more subtle elements as well, tuning into shades of Southern boogie rock, psychedelic art pop, and more on releases such as their 2016 debut, Wake Up Laughing.
Music Band was formed near the start of the 2010s by Nashville musicians Harry Kagan on guitar and vocals, drummer Lee Putney, and bassist Duncan Shea. Their first recordings materialized in the form of the 2010 EP Wild at Heart, a collection of four trashy and lo-fi blues-rock songs. A similarly raw full-length project, Satan’s Grave was released in 2012, and 2014 brought both the live-recorded collection Live at Wembley and the increasingly poppy mini-album Can I Live. By this point the band were playing live frequently and detailing their sound. A 2016 tour with fellow Nashville rockers Diarrhea Planet was accompanied by a split 7″, and that year Music Band delivered Wake Up Laughing, their first proper full-length album. Four years later, they returned with second album Celebration, a further refinement of their ever-powerful rock sound. ~ Fred Thomas
