Formed in 1996 and named after the Spanish violinist, conductor and composer (1863-1939), the Trio Arbós has established itself as one of Spain's leading chamber ensembles.
The repertoire of the trio ranges from the classical and romantic (complete trios by Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Schumann, etc.) to the contemporary, with specially commissioned works forming a significant part of the concert programs presented. Mauricio Sotelo, Luis de Pablo, Jesús Torres, Hilda Paredes, Roberto Sierra, Jorge E. López, Bernhard Gander, Aureliano Cattaneo, César Camarero, José María Sánchez Verdú, José Luis Turina, Gabriel Erkoreka, Marisa Manchado and Harry Hewitt are some of the composers who have dedicated works to this prestigious ensemble. The trio has also collaborated closely with renowned composers such as Pascal Dusapin, Jonathan Harvey, Toshio Hosokawa, Salvatore Sciarrino, Luis de Pablo and Beat Furrer and performers like the viola players Vladimir Mendelssohn and Paul Cortese, the soprano Magdalena Schäfer, and the clarinetists José Luis Estellés, Asko Heiskanen and Joan Enric Lluna.
The Trio Arbós has appeared frequently in major concert halls and festivals in more than 30 countries: Vienna Konzerthaus, Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Helsinki Sibelius Accademy, Buenos Aires Teatro Colón, Madrid Auditorio Nacional, Kuhmo Festival, Festival Time of Music of Viitasaari, Nuova Consonanza of Rome, Romaeuropa, Wittener Tage für Neue Musik, International Festival of Camagüey, NUMUS Festival of Toronto, Santorini International Music Festival, El Salvador International Music Festival, Ryedale Festival, San Sebastian Quincena Musical, Santander International Music Festival, Alicante Contemporary Music Festival, Ensems of Valencia, Seville Teatro Central, etc.
The Trio Arbós has recorded the complete piano trios by Joaquín Turina for NAXOS (this acclaimed recording includes the first world recording of Turina's Trio in F), a CD on the German label COL LEGNO dedicated to the music of the Spanish composer Luis de Pablo, the CD "Sones y Danzones" for the ENSAYO label that includes music by Spanish and Latin American composers, and CDs dedicated to the music of Jesús Torres and César Camarero.
Since 2005 Trio Arbós holds a residence at the Reina Sofía Museum of Contemporary Art of Madrid. Their project Triple Zone has been recently awarded by the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung of Germany.
