The Magic Lantern are an improvisational post-everything band from Umea, Sweden, led by ex-Soapbox member Krister Mortsell. The band officially began when Mortsell and several friends began recording material live and direct to mini-disc, releasing a series of these improvised instrumentals on limited-edition CDRs. The group’s official debut album, the self-titled The Magic Lantern, was recorded in a similar fashion in an Umea apartment and was released in 2009 by Burnt Toast Vinyl. ~ Steve Leggett
