Terror Jr is a dark electropop trio who emerged under an air of mystique in 2016. When the group’s debut single, “3 Strikes,” appeared in a three-minute Kylie Jenner makeup commercial that spring, it led to rumors that the reality TV celeb might be the unknown band’s lead singer. (The band and Jenner later dismissed the rumor on social networking.) It was soon revealed that two of the group’s founding members were established pop/EDM songwriter David Singer-Vine, aka Campa of the Cataracs, and producer/electropop artist Felix Snow. The pair met in 2014, then reconnected a year later when they both worked on the single “Gold” for Atlantic Records artist Kiiara. With the third member being a lead singer referred to only as “Lisa,” and the appearance of promotional photos that obscured bandmembers’ faces, speculation about her identity persisted. More singles, including “Sugar” and “Say So,” followed that spring and summer, and the group’s debut album, Bop City, appeared in October 2016 on the Atlantic imprint EFFESS. A play on Snow’s initials, the label was established by Snow and Singer-Vine. In May 2017, the band issued a pair of singles, “Caramel” and “Death Wish,” in anticipation of the release of their debut full-length, Bop City 2: TerroRising, which dropped later that July. It was followed a few month later by a third volume, Bop City 3: The Girl Who Cried Purple. By the end of the year, Snow had parted ways with the project and vocalist Lisa Vitale became a permanent member.
In 2018, the pair issued “Heaven Wasn’t Made for Me,” which was included on Terror Jr’s debut effort, Unfortunately, Terror Jr. Released in 2019, the set blended their buoyant pop with socio-political messages and featured production by DallasK, the Stereotypes, and more. ~ Marcy Donelson
