Beachy Texas duo Surfaces make upbeat, feel-good pop influenced by ’70s R&B, electronica, and hip-hop. Surfaces broke through with their 2017 album Surf, featuring the single “Be Alright.” Buoyed by the hit “Sunday Best,” they cracked the Billboard 200 with their sophomore album, 2019′s Where the Light Is. Following 2020′s Horizons they collaborated with Elton John on the song “Learn to Fly” and returned to the Billboard 200 with 2021′s Pacifico.
Based out of College Station, Texas, Surfaces formed in 2017 and features the talents of singers, songwriters, and producers Forrest Frank and Colin Padalecki. Padalecki began making music in high school with his cousin, singer Alexa Padalecki. He continued working on tracks while attending Texas A&M, where he posted songs online. His music caught the attention of the Seattle-based Frank, who invited Padalecki to come record with him on his house boat. In December 2017, Surfaces released their debut album, Surf, which included the song “Be Alright.” The track gained fans online and helped build buzz for the duo, who eventually found themselves touring in support of the album. In 2019, they issued their sophomore LP, Where the Light Is, which included the song “Sunday Best.” Surfaces returned with their third album, Horizons, in 2020 which hit number 28 on the Billboard pop chart. That same year they collaborated with Elton John on the breezy single “Learn to Fly.” The duo’s fourth full-length, Pacifico, arrived in July 2021 and included guest appearances by Quinn XCII, Salem Ilese, and Xavier Omär. More non-album tracks followed, including 2021′s “Sheesh!” with Tai Verdes and 2022′s “I Can’t Help But Feel.” ~ Matt Collar
