This female-fronted British Folk band was often accused of copying the sounds and styles of Fairport Convention; to British Folk enthusiasts, Steeleye Span seemed like an otherworldly, bizarro twin of the Fairports that was more rock than folk. Their covers of old Traditional Folk songs, as well as material by their contemporaries, always possessed the band's signature style of smile-inducing vocal harmonies saturated in the nurturing voice of Maddy Prior. Today, Steeleye Span play the occasional reunion show with a revolving door of band members.
