Slow Meadow is an ambient chamber music project envisioned by Houston-based musician Matt Kidd. On releases like 2019′s Happy Occident, Kidd composes serene yet wistful pieces for strings, piano, and electronic textures, providing a soundtrack for reflection and contemplation.
Kidd started working as a touring and session musician in the early 2000s. In 2012, he began releasing cinematic soundscapes under his own name, as well as atmospheric post-rock compositions as Aural Method. Kidd took a break from releasing music for two years, but Marc Byrd of Nashville-based ambient/post-rock band Hammock encouraged him to resume productivity. Naming his project Slow Meadow, Kidd signed to Hammock Music and released a self-titled debut album in 2015, which featured a string quartet and guest appearances by Hammock themselves. Slow Meadow began performing live in 2016, and the project began a prolific run of non-album singles, including “Lachrymosia,” which was sampled by 6LACK on his debut album. Costero, Slow Meadow’s more lushly detailed second full-length, appeared in 2017. Third album Happy Occident arrived in 2019, including distinctive violin arrangements by Ellen Story and a slightly higher presence of vocals and electronics than on earlier releases. By the Ash Tree, a piano-based EP, was released in 2020. ~ Paul Simpson
