Pop/R&B singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Sam Romans spent nearly a decade writing and producing for singers including Mary J. Blige and John Legend before recording on his own as RØMANS. With a warm vocal tone and extensive range of his own, and borrowing from hip-hop and dance music while remaining in the realm of sleek, soulful pop, RØMANS debuted in 2015 with the EP Overthinking, Pt. 1. Subsequent EPs included collaborations with rap artists including Rejjie Snow and Avelino. Raised in Pinner in Greater London, Romans grew up with a music-loving mother who exposed him to the likes of David Bowie and Elton John. Also growing up during the digital technology revolution, he learned to construct music primarily using a laptop, and left school in his mid-teens to pursue a career in music. After working behind the scenes in the industry for several years, he began to draw attention at music showcases in London and later New York and Hollywood, eventually being featured on Naughty Boy’s 2014 single “Home.” The song charted in the U.K. and led to a record deal with Roc Nation. RØMANS’ debut EP, Overthinking, Pt. 1, arrived on the label in mid-2015. He followed up with the Act I EP before the end of the year, then offered his third EP, Silence, in March of 2016. Still with Roc Nation, RØMANS released Automatic a year later. He returned in 2018 with a steady stream of songs collected under the project heading People. ~ Marcy Donelson
