French rap group Relic formed in the village of Argenteuil in 1996. Comprising MCs Antar, Chodo, and Manscaro alongside DJ Soft, the group spent the next several years appearing on countless mixtapes and making numerous cameo appearances before landing a spot on the high-profile soundtrack to filmmaker Kader Ayd’s 2000′s crime picture Old School. It still took Relic another four years to land a record deal, and in 2004 the quartet issued its debut full-length, Légende Urbaine, scoring a mainstream pop hit with the wry “Just Married.” Loin des Apparences followed two years later. ~ Jason Ankeny
