About this artist

Venezuelan musician, singer and producer Ras Sparrow, an artist known the world over for his musical success in reggae, began his musical interest at an early age. Although there were no musicians in his family, music and vinyl records played a key role at home, possibly being this the inspiration for his choosing music.

Eloy Carrero was born in Caracas, Venezuela on July 16, 1976 and lived most of his childhood and youth in Miami, Florida. Ras is a multi-instrumentalist, the guitar being his main instrument. His songs in both English and Spanish focus on messages of consciousness, spirituality, social and love themes. His musical influences range from roots reggae and dub to classic rock, blues, Latin rhythms and soul. He has shared the stage with reggae greats in the likes of Israel Vibration, Alpha Blondy, Midnite, Groundation, Kymani Marley, Anthony B, Bambu Station, Winston Jarrett, Dezarie, The Wailers, Don Carlos, among others.

In 2003 he began performing live on the island of Hawaii, at which point he became known as Ras Sparrow, a name given to him by the island's Rastafarian community. Then in 2007 he christened his independent record label Ras Sparrow Records by releasing his first seven-song EP Ras Sparrow - Sovereign People, recorded and produced strictly using solar energy in his Studio One Love. This album contains songs like Tree of Life, Sovereign People and Good Seed (song which became number 01 on Hawaiian radio and which achieved worldwide success).

In 2010-2013 he formed the duo Ras & Queen Sparrow, a profile under which the songs I Endure (w / Hawaiian Roots Band) (2011), First Light (2012) and the successful single Zion Town (2010) were recorded. Upon the 2013 release of the official music video, Zion Town (Feat. Queen Sparrow) became a worldwide hit, reaching over 20 million views on YouTube.

After many years he returned to his native Venezuela, starting practically from scratch and being limited without his musical instruments or recording equipment. In 2014 he released his second EP entitled Ras Sparrow - DigITAL 12 "Dub Mixes, an album consisting of four songs, each with its respective Dub version, making it a total of eight tracks, recorded and produced using only an iPhone 4S. On this EP you find songs such as El Afortunado and The Cradle.

He then released the singles Go! (2014), Irie Island (2015) and Lion in a Cage (2016), the latter two being recorded in Venezuela together with the female vocal participation of La Makeda and Venezuelan band Judahland.

In 2018 comes Straight & Narrow, an EP made up of four songs, where we find pieces such as Rebels in da Hills and Divide & Conquer. Ras Sparrow has produced several singles in recent years, Jah no Falla (2018), Joya en mi Corona (2019) and SoulJah Youth (2020).

Currently focused on producing his upcoming projects, Ras continues his mission to spread music of love, praise, and conscience worldwide with the hopes of reaching the heart and soul of his listeners and making a positive impact.
