Coming off of the Wreckless Klan’s only release, PSK-13 started a solo career after Klan members Ice Lord and .38 were jailed and murdered, respectively. Starting with 1997′s Born Bad?, PSK-13 crafted a somewhat typical hardcore sound, offering brief glimmers of regret between tracks that celebrated the gangsta lifestyle. After starting his own Black Monopoly Records, PSK-13 released Pay Like You Weigh, a compilation of singles and new tracks that were mostly produced by himself and Jo Traxx. The same year he also dropped Flagrant: The Hustle Game Project, Vol. 1, featuring all new songs and guest appearances from his former bandmates Ice Lord and Point Blank. He also began to associate with other Texas rappers and producers, including the South Park Mexican and DJ Screw, the latter who introduced PSK-13 to his “screwed” production style. This involved slowing down tracks to half their speed or more, complimenting the mind-altering drugs that were also popular in the scene. Adapting to the new production style, PSK became one of the main artists to release albums this way, with most of his releases after Flagrant slowed down and warped to compliment his new approach. This includes the Somethin' to Lean To series, albums that feature himself as well as associates like the Nightshift Hustlas performing in this way. ~ Bradley Torreano
