Pezet

About this artist

Pezet is the stage name of Paweł Kapliński, a rapper from Warsaw who has achieved success as part of Polish hip-hop group Płomień 81, as well as with solo work and collaborations. He is noted for his freestyle rapping skills and his reflective lyrics about city life, society, and personal issues. Pezet formed Płomień 81 in 1998 with his classmate Onar, and the group’s debut, Na Zawsze Będzie Płoną, was released by Asfalt in 1999. Rapper Deus joined the group, and sophomore album Nasze Dni arrived in 2000 on new label R.R.X. In 2002, Pezet formed the duo Pezet/Noon with producer Mikołaj Bugajak of Polish hip-hop group Grammatik. The group released two albums of downtempo electronic hip-hop, Muzyka Klasyczna (T1-Teraz, 2002) and Muzyka Poważna (Embargo Nagrania, 2004). Both albums were successful, hitting the Top 10 in Poland. Płomień 81 (minus Deus, who left the group) released their third album, Historie z Sąsiedztwa, on Konkret Promo in 2005, and it also hit the Polish Top 10. In 2007, Pezet released his debut solo album, Muzyka Rozrywkowa (also on Konkret Promo), which was more club-minded and danceable than his previous works. The album was a Top 5 success, and was followed by Muzyka Emocjonalna in 2009, a limited-release album of remixes and new tracks available exclusively on the artist’s website. Pezet released Dziś w Moim Mieście, a collaborative album with his younger brother Malolat, on the Koka Beats label in 2010, and that album also hit the Top 5 and was certified gold. The duo released live album/DVD Live in 1500m2 in 2012. Solo album Radio Pezet arrived on EMI in 2012, and was significantly influenced by grime and dubstep. The album hit number two on the Polish charts and was certified gold. Following this album, Pezet continued making guest appearances on tracks by myriad Polish groups including Pokahontaz and Slums Attack, and worked on new material for an upcoming album. ~ Paul Simpson
