Singer and songwriter Otile Brown’s smooth, rhythmic style draws from contemporary R&B, Bongo, reggae, and Afropop traditions. His first collection, Best of Otile Brown, appeared in 2017. His official full-length debut, Just in Love, followed in 2020.
Born Jacob Otieno Obunga in Kisumu, Kenya and raised mostly in Mikindani, Brown started writing songs while in his early teens. It appeared on Best of Otile Brown, issued by Dreamland Music in April 2017.
Parting ways with Dreamland, Brown found success with the self-released singles “Baby Love” and “Chaguo la Moyo” (featuring Sanaipei Tande) in 2018, and eventually released the album Just in Love in mid-2020. It featured collaborations with East African hitmakers like Mejja and Juma Jux. ~ Marcy Donelson
