Nyck Caution

About this artist

As a member of the Pro Era collective, a contributor to Beast Coast, and a solo artist, Brooklyn rapper Nyck Caution continued the style of East Coast hip-hop’s golden age with mellow beats and intricate, story-telling lyrics. His 2021 album, Anywhere But Here, found his production and autobiographical songwriting at their apex.
Nyck Caution was born Jesse Cordasco in Brooklyn in 1994. He first began pursuing music with childhood friend Capital STEEZ and took the name Nyck Caution (“Nyck” is an acronym for “New York City Kid”) when he began releasing music of his own. After releasing his first mixtape, The Pursuit, Vol. 1, Caution signed on with Pro Era, the rap collective led by Joey Bada$$. In 2016, he released two mixtapes, Disguise the Limit and Nyck @ Knight, a collaborative effort with fellow Pro Era member Kirk Knight. In 2019 the rapper appeared on multiple tracks of the Beast Coast album Escape from New York. Beast Coast, a project that included members of Pro Era, Flatbush Zombies, and the Underachievers, had been in existence since 2012, but their studio output was slow to materialize up until that point. Caution’s 2021 album Anywhere But Here featured guest spots from GASHI, Denzel Curry, Kota the Friend, and many others. ~ Fred Thomas
