Kenyan vocalist and guitarist Nviiri Sande, who operates under the moniker Nviiri the Storyteller, rose to prominence in the late 2010s as part of the Sol Generation roster, a record company started by Kenyan Afropop superstars Sauti Sol.
Nviiri first caught the public’s attention in 2018 after co-penning the hit single “Melanin,” which appeared on Sauti Sol’s 2019 full-length effort Afrikan Sauce. A deal with Sol Generation quickly followed, as did his breakthrough solo single “Pombe Sigara” and some collaborative projects with members of the Sol family. Two more singles, “Overdose” and “Fore,” arrived that year, with “Kessi Baadae” and “Lesotho (featuring Ray Gee)” appearing in 2020. ~ James Christopher Monger
