About this artist

Nick Leng’s elegant, crafted indie electronica first created a buzz in 2013, when the second track he shared, “Crawled out of the Sea,” became a minor viral hit. He was drawing millions of streams by 2015, as he gradually shifted from wordless electronic productions like that year’s “Tunnels and Planes” (the title track from his debut EP) toward dreamy indie pop that featured his voice, such as the woozy “Ticking” from late 2018. A native of Northern California who spent most of his childhood in South Africa, Leng trained as a classical pianist for over a decade before experimenting with electronic textures. He was based in southern California by the time he started sharing his productions, beginning with May 2013′s “Crawled out of the Sea.” Two months later, he found an audience numbering in the tens of thousands with the follow-up, “Crawled out of the Sea.” He continued to release periodic stand-alone tracks before issuing his first EP, Tunnels and Planes, in early 2015. In addition to its well-received title track, it included the viral hit “Inside Your Mind” featuring Carmody. In mid-2016, B3SCI Records released Leng’s self-produced Drivers EP, which more prominently featured his warm, conversational singing. Later that year, he was featured on the StéLouse track “Been So Long,” which he also co-wrote. Leng returned in late 2018 with a lusher, giddy indie pop sound on the songs “Ticking” and “Lemons.” ~ Marcy Donelson
