Established in September 1951 through the merger of Small Symphony Orchestra All-Union Radio = and Opera Orchestra All-Union Radio = Оперный Оркестр Всесоюзного Радио, in April 1953 it was named after the Moscow Philharmonic, since 1973 - Academic.
