About this artist

Maria Kim, singer, pianist and composer, grew up in South Korea, and took up the piano at the age of 3.

12 years later she was singing and playing the piano professionally throughout South Korea as the youngest jazz vocalist and pianist. She has degrees from Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory in Boston.

In 2013, Maria Kim became the first person to win two sections of Jazz People magazine's "Rising Star" award for piano and vocal. She released her first album "Those Sentimental Thing" in 2015 and was selected as the "2016 New Face of Korean Jazz" by EBS Gonggam.

In 2017, accompanied by Yoonseung Cho, the first Korean Monk Institute graduate, Maria Kim released her new album "I'm Old Fashioned".

In 2018, she released "I Want to Be Happy" through Sony Music Korea. This album was selected as one of Jazz People magazine’s 2018 top 10 jazz albums and was called “Emergence of the new vocal brand”.

In 2019, "Fotografia" received No.1 on the Korean music streaming chart and showed the perfect balance between commercial success and artistic achievement.

In 2021, she released a new album with a strings chamber "With Strings: Dream of You" and this album won the 2022 "Korean Music Awards” and has been listed on Jazz Audio Disc Award by the most prestigious Japanese jazz magazine, Jazz Hihyo (Jazz Critique).
