The untimely death of flamenco revolutionary Enrique Morente in 2010 predictably opened the floodgates for all kinds of releases and tributes. Los Evangelistas is perhaps the most unpredictable and intriguing: an indie rock supergroup formed by los Planetas’ Jota, Florent, and Eric, and Lagartija Nick’s singer Antonio Arias, whose band had famously participated in Morente’s groundbreaking Omega (1996). Los Evangelistas’ Homenaje a Enrique Morente, released in 2012, dazed critics with its unexpected and yet utterly fascinating fusion of flamenco and avant-garde rock. The outfit announced a second album for the end of the year, once again featuring Morente’s daughter Soleá as a guest vocalist. ~ Mariano Prunes
