About this artist

London-based producer and DJ Laurence Guy makes dance music with an emotional aim, embracing feelings of comfort and nostalgia as well as melancholy. His tracks pair well-chosen samples with lush chords, evoking deep house at its most warm and inviting. Releasing music on labels like Church, Shall Not Fade, and Mule Musiq, he has issued over a dozen EPs as well as the full-lengths Saw You for the First Time (2017) and Living Like There’s No Tomorrow, But Killing Yourself in the Process (2023). Additional singles like “Most Perfect People (Are Mostly Not Perfect)” appeared in 2024. Laurence Guy was inspired by the drum’n’bass and dubstep scenes early on, and began spinning at London clubs by the early 2010s. He made his debut with a handful of 2015 EPs, including vinyl debut Kojak (on Church). A split EP with Michigan’s Todd Osborn (aka Soundmurderer) appeared on Cin Cin in 2016, and Guy released the EPs Bamboo and Thinking of You the same year. Guy’s jazzy debut album, Saw You for the First Time, with guest appearances by Steve Spacek and Contours, was released by Church in 2017. Guy continued releasing EPs with elaborate titles such as Making Music Is Bad for Your Self Esteem and The Sun Is Warm and Directly Above You, appearing on labels like Studio Barnhus, Mule Musiq, and Shall Not Fade. He also remixed songs by artists like Session Victim, Sofia Kourtesis, and Barry Can't Swim. His second album, Living Like There’s No Tomorrow, But Killing Yourself in the Process, was issued on his own Accidental Pieces label in 2023. The tracks “I Made This to Play at Fabric,” “Hey Baby,” and “Most Perfect People (Are Mostly Not Perfect)” all appeared in 2024. ~ Paul Simpson
