Kon

About this artist

Kon witnessed hip-hop’s development in New York City, during family trips, as well as in his hometown of Boston. He started collecting records as a youngster and began DJ’ing in the mid-’80s. In 1996, he met up with fellow DJ Amir Abdullah; as Kon & Amir, the duo released several mixes of obscure soul, funk, jazz, and disco, including the self-released On Track series — based on rare sample sources — and the BBE-released Off Track series. He co-produced hip-hop tracks for J-Treds, Ripshop, and hometown legend Edo G, but it wasn’t until 2013 — after piles of re-edits and remixes — that he started releasing house tracks inspired by disco and post-disco as Kon. That May, he issued the All About Youx EP on Soul Clap. The BBE album On My Way followed three months later with guest vocals from Amy Douglas, Georg Levin, and Ben Westbeech. ~ Andy Kellman
