About this artist

Four years on the bus to school, that's what it took for Tom to discover a passion for hip hop and music in general. A phone filled with songs of Eminem and later on Machine Gun Kelly made the bus trips more enjoyable. Inspired by these two artists and with the help of San Cozy, Tom started making music under the name of Key Controversy. Starting with an oldschool-lyrical vibe, Key Controversy dropped The Key Controversy Tape in 2019. A little later his first EP Ear Issues (2019), where he experiments with different hip hop genres, dropped. With songs like Key Controversy & Supermodel, his audience started growing.

The void after introducing himself into the music scene was there. So Key Controversy had to go back in the lab to reinvent his writing and music vibe. A 3-part-tape was made: Talk To Me, Evening Tears and I Quit (2020) were all about the darker side of being an artist and putting your personal life out there through music. The track Can U featuring Elo reminded people of how Rihanna and Eminem used to collaborate.

As a result of these tapes, Key's sound was found: Every track is 100% true-to-life based on his own personal experiences in life. No bending of lyrics to avoid telling details, but just telling what just happened in life.

Key continues his musical journey right now by dropping a single every month. Four Years, Isolation, Holding Tears etc.. show that his true-to-life style will continue in the future.

So far, all this led to airplay at Radio Willy, tens of live shows, a victory at Locals Rap Contest Bruges 2019 (public & jury prize) and a selection for the Humo's Rock Rally 2020.
