Julia Biel is an English singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist rooted in jazz, folk, and soul. Born in London and a native of Sutton, Surrey, Biel attended Oxford University and played in a band. After she was named Perrier Vocalist of the Year in 2000, she joined the supportive F-IRE Collective (Fellowship for Integrated Rhythmic Expression) and, in 2004 alone, was featured on recordings by Polar Bear, Oriole, and Unity Collective. The following year, she made her proper solo debut with Not Alone. Although she didn’t release a follow-up until ten years later, she continued to collaborate with Polar Bear, was featured on Ben Watt’s “Guinea Pig,” and recorded “Bright Star” with Watt and Stimming. In 2015, she released Love Letters & Other Missiles, an album that led to a MOBO (Music of Black Origin) nomination in the category of Best Jazz Act. ~ Andy Kellman
