About this artist

JUDAH. is the performing moniker of Tennessee-based singer/songwriter Judah Akers, who found success in the 2010s fronting the alternative folk-pop group Judah & the Lion. Embracing the band’s early CCM roots, Judah released his debut solo project, the praise & worship EP 7, in 2021.
Akers founded Judah & the Lion in 2011 with mandolinist Brian Macdonald and banjo player Nate Zuercher. Early on, the trio aligned itself with the Christian music scene but adopted a more secular folk-pop style on their acclaimed 2014 full-length debut, Kids These Days. Two years later the band found mainstream success with the release of their dynamic sophomore LP, Folk Hop n' Roll, which included the hit singles “Take It All Back” and “Suit and Jacket.” 2019′s deeply personal Pep Talks also found favor with audiences, peaking at number 18 on the Billboard 200.
In 2020 Akers began releasing singles under the mononym Judah. Written during a difficult period that saw Akers parsing the fallout of a friend’s suicide, the tracks leaned heavily on his rekindled faith. Those songs and several more appeared on his cathartic 2021 EP 7, which featured guest spots from Jon Foreman, Amanda Lindsey Cook, Jon Guerra, and Aodhan King. ~ James Christopher Monger
