Jonas Kopp

About this artist

Born in Buenos Aires in 1981, Argentinian techno artist Jonas Kopp started producing music in 1999, spurred on by the global techno movement. Kopp’s first releases didn’t arrive until 2006 when he released his first EP, Conciencia Muteada, on fellow Argentinian Pfirter’s label MindTrip Music. 2007 saw releases for Weave Music and Vinyl Club, as well as MindTrip, while Kopp was also touted as “one to watch” by Matthew Dear. The following year, Kopp started his own label, Traut Musik, with the aim of promoting Argentinian talent while featuring remixes from international artists. A handful of releases followed, including singles for Curle and CMYK Music, and in 2010, Kopp released a split single with Markus Suckut on experimental techno label Stroboscopic Artefacts. With DJ and live slots making him a steady fixture on the international techno scene, Kopp delivered a slew of releases in 2013 on labels such as Arts, Curle, and Technorama. 2014 proved another successful year for him, as singles for Chris Liebing’s CLR and the Zenker Brothers’ Ilian Tape were followed by his debut album, Beyond the Hypnosis, released on renowned techno label Tresor. The dark and functional techno platter was warmly received and led to increased visibility for Kopp, who continued to DJ around the world while releasing a steady flow of singles on big-name labels like Polegroup, Ownlife, and Tresor. His second album for Tresor, Photon Belt, arrived in 2017, and was a more varied and percussive affair with a pronounced sci-fi theme. ~ Rich Wilson
