Swedish conductor and violist, born August 23, 1975 in Trollhättan.

He grew up in Dottevik in Arvika. He trained at the Norwegian Academy of Music, first as a musician on the viola, then as a conductor with Ole Kristian Ruud as the main teacher. He has played in the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra.

As a conductor, Johannes Gustavsson has led many of the professional symphony orchestras in the Nordics. In 2003, he became the first winner of the Swedish conductor prize. The following year he won second prize in the international Georg Solti competition. In 2008, he became the first to be awarded the Herbert Blomstedt conductor's prize by the Royal Academy of Music and in the same year received the audience's prize at the Toscanini competition in Taormina. In the 2010/11 season, he will be artistic advisor and recurring conductor for the Nordic Chamber Orchestra in Sundsvall. In the academic year 2010/11, he is also a conductor and teacher at the Ingesund Academy of Music (Karlstad University). Gustavsson acts as an artistic partner at the Oulu Symphony Orchestra together with Anna-Maria Helsing during the 2012/13 season.

Johannes Gustavsson is married to the Norwegian-Swedish viola player and children's book illustrator Ane Gustavsson ().
