Jensen Interceptor is the performing alias of Mikey Melas, an Australian electro DJ and producer who draws from Detroit electro, Miami bass, Italo disco, EBM, and other styles of hard-driving dance music. Over the course of dozens of EPs and a full-length (2018′s Mother), he’s produced dark techno and icy electro in a gritty yet refined style. He frequently collaborates with Assembler Code, and the two run the International Chrome label together. He has also worked with the Hacker (Trigger Zone, 2018), DJ Deeon (Master Control Program, 2021), DeFeKT (Free Your Mind, 2022), and others.
Mikey Melas was part of a collaboration called Australia, which released the 2011 single “Sydney on Acid” on Twin Turbo. This was followed by “Techno Music 2013″ on Motorik!, which also released Melas’ first few EPs as Jensen Interceptor. As further digital releases appeared on BNR Trax and Space Factory, his sound shifted from techno to electro, and his vinyl debut, M, appeared on Central Processing Unit in 2016. Carter’s Green Factory was issued by the label in 2017. Along with Brendon Zacharias (aka Assembler Code), he released house records as the duo Anthony Fade, and the two additionally produced electro under their main pseudonyms, starting with the Boysnoize-issued 6th Element. The pair established the International Chrome label, and its first release was 2018′s Trigger Zone, a collaboration between the Hacker and Jensen Interceptor. Lone Romantic issued Mother, the first Jensen Interceptor full-length, later in the year, as numerous other EPs appeared on labels like E-Beamz and Cultivated Electronics.
The Drexciya-inspired The Ultimate Wave Riding Vehicle was issued by Craigie Knowes in 2019. Other releases during the year included a split EP with Sync 24 titled Code Three, and several Assembler Code collaborations, including Dance Trax Vol. 19 on Unknown to the Unknown. The slower, New Beat-influenced Strings of Fear was released by Pinkman, and Jensen Interceptor was featured on DeFeKT’s Mind Lock EP. 2021 brought collaborations with Volruptus (Big Bang Energy) and Chicago house legend DJ Deeon (Master Control Program). In 2022, Jensen Interceptor collaborated with DJ Fuckoff for the ghettotech EP Club Angels (UTTU), and with DeFeKT on the Tresor-issued Free Your Mind. ~ Paul Simpson
