Jayateerth Mevundi

About this artist

This youthful singer from the Kirana Gharana has already established his mark as a promising singer. The signs of maturity are now more evident in all his renditions. Jayateerth hails from Hubli-Dharwad region from the state of Karnataka. Continuing the tradition of great singers from the region Jayateerth has already attracted the attention of major musical conferences in all parts of India.

He was initiated into the art of music by Sangeet Ratna Arjuna Nakod of the Gwalior Ghara. After a decade of training, Jayateerth was attracted by the style of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi and he began to groom himself under the able guidance of Pt. Shripati Padigar, a senior disciple of Bhimsenji.

Today, Jayateerth's style blends the vigour of the Gwalior Gharana with the emotive quality of Kirana Gharana. Unfolding the structure of the Raag, note by note through aesthetic phrasing and appropriate modulations, educing the meaning in the text, easy reach in all the registers and an amazing speed and clarity in Taan patterns are the highlights of his singing. Quite often he reminds you of his ideal Pt. Bhimsen Joshi in his forceful volley of Taans.

He has received several awards and scholarships from music organisations in Karnataka and from other parts of the country. The prestigious 'Pandit Jasraj Puraskar' is one of them.

Jayateerth's youthful career promises a long and successful musical career ahead.
