Prior to making his solo debut in 2012, Danish singer/songwriter Jacob Bellens was well known in the Copenhagen music scene for his bands I Got You on Tape and Murder. Both of his bands had their genesis in the mid-2000s and each represented a different shade of Bellens’ distinct approach to pop music. With his warm, laconic baritone and playfully maudlin tone, you can hear distinct hints of Scott Walker, Tom Waits, and Magnetic Fields in his artful approach. Following I Got You on Tape’s 2011 release Church of the Real, Bellens collaborated with electronic artist Kasper Bjørke, singing several tracks on his 2012 album, Fool. Bellens quickly followed up later that year with the shuffling baroque pop of his solo debut, The Daisy Age. A single titled “Do You Have Anything Harder?” bridged the gap between his debut and his sophomore LP, 2014′s My Convictions. ~ Timothy Monger
