Haywyre is the solo project of Martin Vogt, an electronic musician who fuses classical and jazz piano training with an ear for 21st century electronic production. His songs have a laid-back yet adventurous feel, drawing from dubstep and glitch-hop while maintaining a melodic focus. After establishing his sound with early self-released albums such as 2010′s Of Mellows and Revelations, Haywyre produced more intense, complex works like 2016′s Two Fold, Pt. 2, later switching to a futuristic disco/funk hybrid with 2018′s Panorama: Discover.
Vogt was born in Lafayette, Indiana but grew up in Austria, where he started taking piano lessons at the age of seven and was first exposed to jazz and hip-hop. He moved back to America in 2008 and started creating music as Haywyre. His debut full-length, Lotus, was digitally self-released in 2009, followed by Of Mellows and Revelations in 2010 and Dubsonic in 2011. 2012 saw the release of full-length The Voyage, as well as singles “Draw the Line” and “Encompassing” and the Infinite EP. With a slew of releases already under his belt, Vogt’s profile increased when he signed to Canadian EDM label Monstercat in 2013, releasing singles “Back and Forth” and “Synergy” that year. Haywyre’s fifth full-length, Two Fold, Pt. 1, arrived on the label in March of 2014. However, he reached viral popularity with a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” also issued in 2014. Haywyre shared the stage with EDM heavyweights Zedd, Gramatik, and Mat Zo and embarked on his first solo tour. Following further singles on Monstercat in addition to remixes of Black Sun Empire & Noisia’s “Hideous” and ODESZA’s “All We Need,” Two Fold, Pt. 2 was released in February of 2016. In 2018, Haywyre released Panorama: Discover, the first of a six-part EP series. The release was more danceable and funk-influenced than his previous material, incorporating talk box-filtered vocals into futuristic disco grooves. Second volume Panorama: Form followed in 2019. ~ Paul Simpson
