Mexican regional favorite El Chapo was born Ernesto Perez in Badiraguato, a town in Sinaloa, a state known for traditional music. Perez grew up surrounded by musicians and cowboys, and today he is known as an avid rider as well as a singer and musician. As a boy he studied the clarinet and by age 11 was playing in a band; by his late teens he had taken up the bass, recording with local bands. He soon embarked on a singing career and became know for Billboard Latin chart hits, including "Fantasia Loca" and "Tu, Yo y La Luna."
