Vancouver, British Columbia-based artist EKKSTACY brings together several depressive and doomy styles, exploring synth pop, occasional trap rhythms, indie peppiness, and post-punk moodiness for a sound that can change song to song. In addition to frequently shared singles and several collaborative tracks, EKKSTACY explored his multi-faceted sound on the brooding and goth-tinged 2022 full-length project, Misery.
EKKSTACY began pursuing music as early as age 14 and began releasing original songs in 2020 at age 18, with early singles ranging from the punky pop of “Stupid Kids” to tormented, post-XXXTentacion emo trap sounds on “Uncomparable.” Debut album Negative arrived in 2021, featuring catchy synth pop single “i walk this earth all by myself,” a song that eventually racked up streaming numbers in the tens of millions. Around the same time, EKKSTACY linked up with the Drums for collaborative song “f*ck everything!,” and worked with longtime friend Herhexx on the melancholic “i want to be by your side.” In September of 2022, the full-length Misery was released. Song titles like “christian death” and a more aggressive, punk-informed sound pointed towards more goth and doom pop influences. ~ TiVo Staff
