British electric bass and double bass player.
After attending the Guildhall School of Music in 1979, he began to record and perform with various musicians such as trombonist Annie Whitehead, saxophonist Tim Whitehead, drummer Richard Bailey and vibraphonist Orphy Robinson.
In 1992, he co-founded jazz group Perfect Houseplants, with pianist Huw Warren, saxophonist Mark Lockheart and drummer Martin France.
He played with many musicians in various genres, including jazz musicians such as Andy Sheppard, Billy Cobham, Jim Mullen, Iain Ballamy and Martin Speake; world music artists such as South African singer Sibongile Kumalo, Moroccan Gnawa singer Mustapha Bukbu, Brazilian singer Cibelle, Malian duo Amadou et Miriam, Egyptian percussionist Hossam Ramzy, Spanish flamenco singer Chonchi Heredia, kora player Tunde Jegede, and composer Surinder Sandhu's Saurang Orchestra; musicians from the English folk scene such as Mark Nevin, Mary Coughlan, Eddie Reader and singer-songwriter Adam Masterson; contemporary composers such as the Balinescu Quartet, the Almeida Ensemble and composers Stephen Warbeck, Kevin Seargent and Will Gregory; songwriters such as Bill Withers, Mica Paris, Anja Garbarek, Sophie B.Hawkins and Amy Winehouse.
