Drey Skonie’s Bio

Singer, writer, producer, and currently studying Audio Production at the Art Institute Of Michigan. I call myself, the young #QuincySkones. I’m  an up & coming r&b/soul artist with a conscious and spiritual mind, from the birthplace of the famous Motown sound, #Detroit Michigan with all the heart necessary. I wear the city’s influence with pride. My natural musical abilities were evident at the early age of 6. I was surrounded by a musical family church environment, my first love was the drum, but I couldn’t resist the ebony and ivory keys, and they couldn’t keep me quiet, so I had to sing.
Just in case you didn’t know, I got my start into the music industry on MTV's “Making The Band 4”. Since then I became a member of a Chicago based group called Kwiet Storm. During that time we briefly signed with Usher’s mom, Jonetta Patton on Jpat Records. I was able to receive artist development and vocal training with Aj Alexander as well as Jan Smith. Ever since then I’ve been working hard and making a name for myself.
I’ve been grinding as an artist and released a few mix tapes, but in 2014 I released my debut EP. Executive produced by mega producer Prolyfic & myself, with support from my hometown peers like, Shorty Da Prince, DJ BJ 3525, & Dr. Darius on 107.5, also DJ Mobeatz & Vanloo, of Fm 98 Wjlb, just to name a few. Also receiving a lot love from the beautiful people in Detroit as well as the people I’ve reached from traveling and social media. I've been earning my respect & notoriety by doing features, shows and staying consistent with any music that has my name attached. That's got me featured in Vibe, Complex, XXL, Hip Hop Weekly, FakeShoreDrive, World Star Hip Hop & other blogs site. Platinum Recording Artist Obie Trice’s stirred up quite a buzz with our record and video to “Spend The Day”. Other features include 106 & Park’s Shorty Da Prince, Finally Famous’ Early Mac, IBGM's Say It Aint Tone, Oba Rowland, Dej Loaf, and other artist like K Deezy, Sino, IceWear Vezzo and many more Detroit Artist that are hot in the city. Outside my hometown, I’ve worked with Scotty Atl, King Mez got me on a J Cole track, and The Boy Illinois, plus many more. The list goes on, but you can find it all on google. I received my first placement with one of my mentors the infamous producer, Soundtrakk. I wrote the hook for Stally’s song on Maybach Music’s Selfmade 3 - Paris (Feat Omarion & Rockie Fresh), and more to come.
Being a student has opened my mind to more musical possibilities, like scoring movies sound design, and being a producer. So I feel my longevity in the business combined with influences, & my music background. All I have to do is keep going and I will reach a wide range of audiences, supporters and most def the ladies. I hope my music crosses over to music lovers of all genres including yourself.
My Ep “One Night Stand” is available on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and more. You can also listen on https://soundcloud.com/drey-skonie along with more music.
