The winner of the 1989 Dutch ‘Mix and Scratch’ championships, DJ Jean (real name: Jan Engelaar, born May 7, 1968 in Veenendaal) first started plying his trade — that of house music DJ — in 1991. By 1997, he had two hit singles, “I’ll Be Right There,” and “Let Yourself Go.” In 1999, he began a Friday night residency at the Dutch club iT, with a set called MadHouse. He would go on to release more singles, including “The Launch,” as well as a handful of mix CDs. 2007 found the DJ touring most of Europe and China. ~ Chris True
