About this artist

Djavan entered the world of music at a young age, teaching himself guitar through magazines that circulated in his hometown, Maceió. At 18, he was already livening up local dances with his band. At 23, he started singing in famous nightclubs in Rio de Janeiro.

In 3 years, he composed more than 60 songs. With one of them, "Fato Consumado", he won 2nd place at the Abertura Festival, in 1975. Shortly afterwards, he recorded an album, the first in a long discography that positioned him among the greatest Brazilian artists.

He was a partner of great artists such as Chico Buarque, Aldir Blanc and Gilberto Gil. He had compositions recorded by artists such as Gal Costa, Maria Bethânia, Roberto Carlos and Caetano Veloso.

In 1982, "Flor-de-lis" was her first song to be released in English, under the title “Upside Down”, in the voice of North American diva Carmen McRae. The power of his work took him to Los Angeles, where he recorded albums produced by Ronnie Foster, a big name in Soul Music.

Accolades like those from producer Quincy Jones reflect the prestige that Djavan has acquired internationally, in addition to recordings alongside artists such as Stevie Wonder, Paco de Lucía and Jorge Drexler.

Singer, composer, musician, arranger, producer and creator of his own style, Djavan innovates by mixing rhythms, from syncopated samba to pop, jazz, blues and ballads. In his more than 45-year career, he followed his poetic essence, leaving his mark on albums and shows that earned him several awards, including 4 Latin Grammys.
