New Jersey party staple DJ Lilman is a purveyor of Brick City club music, a propulsive regional style similar to Baltimore club and New Orleans bounce. Born Keith Brown in Newark, Lilman left engineering school at William Paterson University in order to pursue his music hobby full-time. He built a following throwing parties throughout Jersey, unveiling his debut single, “Swing That,” in 2003. Each new Lilman song also came with its associated dance moves (instructions were often contained in the song lyrics). Accumulating hits like “Sexy Walk,” “Left Right,” and “The Patty Cake,” Lilman released the full-length dance compilation, Mr. New Jersey, in 2013. Keeping with his good-time reputation, titles on the album included “Booty Shake,” “Urkel Dance,” and “Baby Got Back, Pt. 2.” In 2016, he released I Said It’s Lilman, which featured songs like “Bounce” and “This Is 4 the Butts.” ~ Neil Z.
