Mixing ’90s R&B influences with gospel, hip-hop, and funk, Devin Morrison is a skillful singer/songwriter known for his sultry, groove-oriented anthems. He first garnered buzz with his 2019 debut album Bussin'.
A native of Orlando, Florida, Morrison was raised in a musical family, the son of David "Dah-Vi" Morrison who had played alongside his siblings in the ’70s Chicago-based gospel outfit the Morrison Echoes. Growing up, he took piano lessons per his grandmother’s wishes and by his teens was making hip-hop beats with his brothers. After high school, he honed his skills studying music composition and recording at Alabama’s Oakwood University. From there he spent time living in Japan and working with Tokyo-based hip-hop artists Fitz Ambro$e and Budamunk. Returning to the states he moved to Los Angeles. In 2019, he released his debut album, Bussin', on Paris-based producer Onra’s NBN label. Featured on the album were guest spots by Daz Dillinger, Joyce Wrice, and King, as well as Morrison’s father and brother (Lakks Mable). By the end of the year, Morrison had appeared on tracks by the likes of Phonte, Zo!, Nao Yoshioka, and Submerse. ~ Matt Collar
