Emerging from Norway’s burgeoning Americana scene, Oslo trio Darling West deliver a richly harmonic folk sound with elements of bluegrass and old-time music. Mari Sandvær Kreken, Tor Egil Kreken, and Kjetil Steensnæs made their debut as Darling West in 2014 with Winter Passing, an album whose rich vocal blend and string band roots helped earn the trio a Spellemannprisen nomination, which is the Norwegian equivalent of the Grammy Awards. They followed up in 2016 with their acclaimed sophomore set, Vinyl and a Heartache, this time winning the Spellemannprisen. ~ Timothy Monger
