Chuuwee

About this artist

Sacramento, California-based rapper Chuuwee was born Dionte Chuuwee Hunter in 1990. His love of rap bloomed early in his life, but all of his early experiences with music went hand in hand with discouragement and mockery. As a child he wrote poetry, but was laughed out of the room by his family when he attempted to rap over “Greensleeves.” Later, as a teenager, he formed a rap group with fellow students, but the other members of the group picked on and belittled Chuuwee’s talents. He persisted through the scorn, and eventually made a name for himself in Northern California hip-hop circles, releasing multiple mixtapes and performing constantly. In 2011 he signed a deal with Amalgam Digital, then home to rap artists such as Lil B and Joe Budden. He continued prolifically releasing mixtapes, amassing over a dozen titles before his official 2016 debut came in the form of the fully realized album Economics. He continued releasing music nonstop, following up Economics with 2017′s Purgator, the 2018 mixtape PassOver, and various other singles and mixtapes. ~ Fred Thomas
