Charles Shadwell

Charles Murray Winstanley Shadwell was a British conductor and bandleader.
Shadwell was conductor of the BBC Variety Orchestra, which he held from 1936 - 1954. Charles had four daughters: Joan a singer who performed under the name Joan Winters; Charles and Joan appeared together in the British feature film Variety Jubilee; Daphne a director and producer for both BBC and Thames Television; Hazel an accomplished violinist resides in Bushey, England and Sheila resided in California.
He moved to Cambridge and was publican of the Green Man for 17 years, retiring in 1973 and moving to Pershore; during this time he donated his library of orchestral sheet music to the Cambridge Concert Orchestra, for whom he was president and conductor in the early 1970s.
