Singer/songwriter Catie Turner was already a talent-show circuit pro when she landed a spot on the 16th season of American Idol. Finishing in seventh place, Turner found mainstream success in 2019 with the release of her debut EP, The Sad Vegan, and the singles “Prom Queen” and “I Luv Him.” In 2021, after suffering through a breakup, she turned lemons into lemonade with the ebullient six-song EP Heartbroken and Milking It.
A native of Langhorne, Pennsylvania, Turner took to music early, writing songs on guitar and trying out for every talent competition she could find. Early attempts at America’s Got Talent, The Voice, and the 15th season of American Idol failed. Still, the headstrong Turner remained determined, and her tenacity and raw talent eventually paid dividends when she landed a spot on the 2018 season of American Idol. After impressing the judges with an original composition — “21st Century Machine” — the fan favorite sailed into the Top Ten, eventually bowing out in a respectable seventh place. Capitalizing on her newfound celebrity, Turner issued her debut EP, The Sad Vegan, in 2019, along with the streaming hits “Prom Queen” and “I Luv Him.” Two years later, she returned with the soulful and inward-looking single “Therapy,” ahead of the arrival of her lush, post-breakup-themed sophomore EP, Heartbroken and Milking It. ~ James Christopher Monger
