Camerata Nordica

About this artist

Swedish professional chamber orchestra based in Oskarshamn. It is part of Kalmar County's music foundation and consists of 15–20 musicians. The ensemble has its origins in Oskarshamnsensemblen, which was started in 1974, and has previously been called Kalmar läns Kammarorkester and Camerata Roman. The orchestra has been called Camerata Nordica since 2004. Characteristic of the orchestra is that it plays without a conductor (ie in camerata form) and standing.

The orchestra has recorded about 15 records in its own name, including music by Anders Eliasson and Beethoven's late string quartets, in processing for string orchestra. Pianist Per Tengstrand is a soloist with the orchestra on three records with Mozart's piano concertos. Camerata Nordica has regularly toured abroad, including to England, Poland, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and the United States, which have been visited during eight tours.
