Inspired by the likes of Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, and Stevie Wonder, Bryn Christopher’s fusion of classic soul and modern R&B has seen him labeled as the male Amy Winehouse. Born in Great Barr, Birmingham, in 1985, Christopher started performing at a young age. While at secondary school, he joined a youth theater company, formed a soul band, and wrote his first songs as part of his Music GCSE course. After attending a prestigious London stage school for two years, he caught the attention of a management team who introduced him to Polydor’s Colin Barlow. Christopher spent the next year recording with Australian co-writer/producer Jarrad Rogers and production outfit Midi Mafia (Jennifer Lopez), who managed to secure the rights to sample songs from the famous Stax/East Memphis catalog. After a sold-out residency at London’s Soho Revue Bar and support slots on tours with Adele, Amy Winehouse, and Mary J. Blige, he signed with America’s biggest live booking agency, William Morris, and released his first single, “The Quest.” Inspired by his soldier brother’s experience in Iraq, it received huge airplay from Radio 2 but failed to reach the Top 40. Following performances at the BBC Introducing… stage at Glastonbury, Wireless Festival, and T in the Park, he released his second single, “Smilin’,” and critically acclaimed debut album, My World. ~ Jon O’Brien
